Saturday we walked at least 3 miles around Austin, a pretty cool city. We were hoping we could get some tickets to the Austin City Limits Music Festival, though that was fairly naive. Tickets we're selling in the street for $230 apiece, for one day! Not quite in the budget... That was a little disappointing, but while it's advertised as a family event, I don't think Z would have had any fun, and it was SO loud.
Sunday we had breakfast with my grandparents, visited sea world, and had a really nice family dinner with my aunt, uncle, and 3 of my many cousins at grammas house. She made all the food! Roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli, candied sweet potatoes, rolls, salad, apple sauce, and apple pie! It was nice to see everyone, but I really have to work hard to make small talk with my cousins that I don't know very well. Luckily they all see each other all the time and we're able to carry conversation without me chiming in too much. Z was pretty entertaining too of course.
Sea World was pretty neat, the park was almost empty, it was great! We were on the same page most if the day so there were few tense moments, which is progress. R and I we're able to ale turns going on the 2 rollercoasters they have. We were able to just walk on each time, no line! We went and watched 2 of the shows, one was all about the orcas, which was pretty neat, and then another which was a play on cirque du soleil, just in the water and with baluga whales and dolphins. Z loved it! He barely slept all day, so we all got a great nights sleep that night.
Monday, R had to go to work, so we were on our own. Z made up for lost sleep by taking 2, 2-hour naps! During the first one, I did a whole hour of self-directed yoga, there were lots of planks involved. My sides still hurt. After his nap, we met up with my family again and ate a good lunch at a local brewery, and then my little cousin Anna, Z, and I swam at the hotel pool while everyone else got some sun. We said our good byes and I went to go pick up R.
Tuesday was a nutzo day, I packed during Z's nap and we checked out of the hotel 3.5 hours before having to pick R up from work. There are no playgrounds! I googled, mapped, looked on any San Antonio website I could find, and all I could find we're play places. That you have to pay for to go inside :-( that makes me sad. I just wanted a small jungle gym and a swing and maybe a slide. It was a beautiful day, 80° and sunny. No playgrounds! While I was searching, Z fell asleep again, so I just sat in the car and read.
Flight home was fine, though since Z napped late, he didn't want to sleep on the plane for awhile. Lots of people in confined spaces makes me edgy, and having a one-year-old who just wants to run around makes me even more tense. I have to work really hard to not flip out and be completey overwhelmed. I just try to remember that expecting a toddler to sit still for 3 hours is kind of an insane thing to ask, and from that perspective, he did great!
We're home now!
